National Love people day!!

Hello Everyone,

I have always been a people person. I love to sit and have conversation and learn about peoples lives. I find everyone is so unique in their own ways and that’s what makes our world so great. On September 30, National Love People Day asks us to lift others up through the profound power of unconditional love.

National Love People Day tasks us with an understanding that unconditional love requires a dedication most human beings aren’t given. But, when we wholeheartedly love our neighbors with steadfast devotion, the world is a better place. It is the practical application of “love your neighbor as yourself.”

I’ll admit, this isn’t always easy. I’ll be the first to admit I have road rage and yell in my car. I get upset at the smallest of things about people. Why?? Because something isn’t going my way or the way I think it should go. Ouch!!! Yeah that hit me too when I came to that realization. We are all pretty selfish in our own ways, but I have been thinking about this day for a while now. This day requires us to love our neighbor as ourselves. If I’m not loving the people around me, then I’m not loving myself very much either. We beat ourselves up for things and are our own worst enemy. It’s time to put a stop to this and really tell ourselves how incredibly awesome we are, because we are awesome.

I wanted to challenge you to not only love those around you, but love yourself as well. This is a challenge that I want you to try for an entire day. Just pick a day and go for it. How does that look exactly?? Well here are some things that you can do to be successful with your day.

Start your day off by looking in the mirror and giving yourself some words of affirmation. We used to do this with all of the students at RecXtra. They would repeat after us by saying, “I’m Awesome, I’m Kind, I’m Smart, I’m Important, there is no one else I’d rather be than me”!! Doing something like this helps creates a positive mindset. Once you know you are awesome ( because you are) , you will see that others are awesome too. Now whatever you do during the day remember to be kind to those around you. You never know what someone is dealing with in their world as well. Have a conversation with the check out person at the store. Don’t just stand there in awkward silence. Ask about their day and smile, even if it is behind your mask. If you don’t see a lot of people during your day you could always call and check up on someone or send some cards out to friends. Everyone loves getting a card in the mail with an encouraging word. Have a midweek family night and surprise the family. No matter how tired you are, sit and play some games as a family. This is a way to show your kids how to love and pass that a long to future generations.

This is a day of reflection and a reminder to love everyone around you. Our world can be so much greater if we are kind to those around us. Even to yourself. So remember you are loved and you are awesome!! Now go spread some love and share that with someone else. See you next week.
