Posted on May 8, 2020 at 8:31 AM by Tiffany Miller

Good Morning everyone!!!

Its finally Friday!! Time for some family fun nights with games and food!! I don't know what your favorite beverage to drink is, but today we honor a classic.

On May 8th, millions of people around the world take the time to have a Coca-Cola in celebration of today. Coca-Cola was invented in 1886. A simple syrup mixed with carbonated water made for a delicious drink that was served at a soda fountain where is was served for 5 cents a glass. Today Coca-Cola sales 1.9 billion globally. That is a lot of Coke. I remember having my first Coke while I was in Africa. I was craving a soda desperately and the only kind they had was a Coke. Although it wouldn't have been my first chose, the sweet taste of something carbonated was exactly what I needed. It was probably the best Coca-Cola I had ever had.

To celebrate this sweet drink, I thought I'd share some of my favorite ways you can enjoy the classic drink.

Coke Float:
The most classic way to celebrate Coca-Cola is to have a Coke Float!!! I know that just made you excited!! I still remember the first time I had a Coke Float. I remember thinking my mom was so silly to pour soda on top of ice cream until I tasted the sweet sweet drink. Now you can make a float anyway you want to, but of course with a Coke it's the best!
All you need is
Coca-Cola
Vanilla Ice Cream
Tall glass
Simple put as much ice cream in your tall glass and our your Coca-Cola on top. Some people like to use different flavor Cokes, such as cherry or now orange flavor. Whatever you choose, sit back, relax and enjoy!!

Coca-Cola Cake:
Ingredients
2 cups of flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 can (12 oz) cola
1 cup butter, cubed
1/4 cup baking cocoa
2 large eggs, room temp
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla extract
GLAZE:
1 can (12oz) cola
1/2 bup butter, cubed
1/4 baking cocoa
4 cups confectioners sugar, shifted

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 13x9-in. baking pan.
In a large bowl, whisk the first 5 ingredients. In a small saucepan, combine cola, butter and cocoa; bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally. Add to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened.
In a small bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk and vanilla until blended; add to flour mixture, whisking constantly.
Transfer to prepared pan. Bake 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
About 15 minutes before cake is done, prepare glaze. In a small saucepan, bring cola to a boil; cook 12-15 minutes or until liquid is reduced to 1/2 cup. Stir in butter and cocoa until butter is melted; remove from heat. Add confectioners' sugar; stir until smooth. Pour immediately over hot cake and enjoy!!!

One of my favorite ways to enjoy coke is to watch the old commercials. I remember being a kid watching the TV every year for the new Christmas commercial. Here are some of my favorite commercials. I hope they take you back and bring a smile to your face as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy4_XKYo0rQ

However you decided to celebrate today, make sure you do it as a family. Make sure you give that extra love and appreciation to those we call mom. From birth moms to women that are in our lives that treat us like we are one of their own, give them that love and say a big Thank you to them. We wouldn't be the same without them!! Have a fun weekend everyone!
