The ERC Steering Committee has put the new recreation center project on hold due to economic factors in our community. We hope to revisit this in the future.

Steering Committee Documents:
All meetings of the Steering Committee are open and subject to KOMA.
The structure of the Steering Committee as detailed in the MOU signed by the City of Emporia, the Emporia Recreation Commission and the USD 253 School Board is as follows:

Community Recreation Center Project Scope
The Steering Committee will address the following space needs of the ERC facility while keeping our Vision and Core Values in mind.
ERC Vision
To enhance and support the health and wellness goals of our community by creating opportunities for life-long physical and emotional well-being through diversified recreation programs and activities.
ERC Core Values
The Emporia Recreation Commission will strive to provide essential recreational opportunities through creative programming, health equity, excellence in facility management, and innovative partnerships and services to our community. We will exemplify integrity, fiscal responsibility, quality customer service and diversity in our workplace. With these core values, we are seeking to build a strong, healthy and resilient community.
Community Area:
- Central entry point with check-in station for patron safety and convenience
- Commons area with couches, coffee, table tennis, tables and chairs for playing cards (near Wellness Center)
- Small kitchen area near Commons area
- Play space for small children
- Large Community Room for rentals- can be made into smaller rooms
- Large teaching/catering kitchen near the Community Room
Aquatics:
- Indoor Family Aquatics area with zero-depth pool (accessible for children and elderly), slides and lazy river
- Therapeutic pool for classes of 25-30
- Lap Pool with 2-4 lanes
- Storage for equipment
- Office space for 2-3
- Training room for lifeguards/CPR
Sports:
- Four full-size courts for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, indoor soccer, baseball/softball
- Storage for four courts
- Seating all the way around (portable)
- Curtains to divide courts
- Office space for 2-3 people
Wellness:
- Current Wellness Center and Fitness Studio as is plus
- Fully equipped weight room including traditional weight room equipment plus squat stack, cable crossover, smith machine, etc.
- Laundry/Supply room
- Office space for 2-3 people
Programming:
- Multi-Use Classroom space for 25-30 people
- Storage
- Office space for 2 people
Administration:
- Office space for Director, assistant director, office manager, marketing, and accounting
- Files/Records room
- Mail room/work space with storage
- Large conference room (20-30 people)
- Small conference room (8-12 people)
- Staff Break room (close to small conference room)
Maintenance Room:
- Work Space
- Office space for 2-3
- Storage
