 NEW Youth Sports Code of Conduct

The Emporia Reds Baseball:   The Emporia Reds follow the standards that will be expected for players entering into the Spartan High School program. All of our players will practice, play and develop the fundamentals to prepare them for high school baseball and beyond. We are offering a fall team for those interested and private lessons are always available with Spartan Head Coach Anthony Markowitz. The Emporia Reds have a full functioning board that works with the Spartan Baseball staff to promote fundamental baseball in the Emporia area.

Micro Baseball & Softball                                                                                                   This program prepares children ages 3-4 for organized baseball/softball in a FUN, non-threatening environment. The program allows children the opportunity to work one-on-one with a parent. The children will learn a variety of baseball/ softball skills including: throwing, catching, batting, and running agility. Sessions are held once a week for five weeks and each week the exercises will become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and children show improvement. The program includes fun and developmentally appropriate equipment. A PARENT OR SIGNIFICANT ADULT MUST ATTEND THE CLASS WITH THE CHILD. Sessions are offered on Tuesdays.  All participants will receive a T-shirt.

Instructional T-ball 5 & 6                                                                                                     The main purpose of this instructional program is to teach basic fundamentals and provide an overall fun experience for the young participant.  Participants will learn how to play with others as members of a team.  Instructional T-ball will be a five-week program.  Kids will be divided into teams and assigned practice times Monday thru Thursday with no more than two practices or games per week.  Each practice will be part learning fundamentals and part team practice.  The last 3 weeks will be a 6-game league schedule.  Volunteer coaches are needed.

Hornet Baseball Camp    Emporia State Head Coach Bob Fornelli and his staff will offer an exciting baseball camp for young ball players.  The camp offered for kids 5-9 years of age will concentrate on pitching and catching as well as hitting and defense.  Camp for ball players 10-14 years of age will concentrate on all aspects of the game.  Come ready to have a good time and learn the fundamentals of baseball.  Don’t forget to bring your glove, hat and shoes. Camp will be held on Glennen Field at the Trusler Sports Complex.

All three leagues will be a part of a traveling recreation league. Teams will play doubleheaders both home and away.

Once teams have been formed, late registrants will be placed on a waiting list and will be assigned to teams by the recreation center staff as needed. Assigned coaches will contact registrants by phone or mail concerning practices. Local businesses or service clubs will sponsor teams. The Recreation Commission will schedule practices in the evenings during the month of May. Coaches will be able to schedule their own practices during June and July. Each team will be scheduled to play two games per week during the summer session. Baseball pants will not be provided for the youth leagues.

Summer Youth Sports Age Policy                                                                                     When registering your child, use the grade in which they are currently enrolled. Children are allowed to play up one age group, up to the third grade. For clarification, call the sports supervisor at the recreation center.

Youth Fee Waiver Scholarship Policy                                                                                The Emporia Recreation Center will follow the  guidelines used by USD253 to determine the qualifications for free or reduced price meals. Those who reside in the USD253 school district and are enrolled in Kindergarten through Tenth grade, may apply for a fee waiver by contacting the Emporia Recreation Main Office. Those eligible for free lunches will have a $5.00 co-pay per activity, those with reduced lunches will pay half of the cost of the activity.  All fee waiver participants are limited to six activities per year (August through July).
